The Final Game Seven Who will win?
Who will win Game 7?
1:St. Louis Cardinals:
2:Texas Rangers:
A game seven is the final game of a best of seven series. This game can occur in the postseasons for Major League Baseball (League Championship Series and World Series), the National Basketball Association (all rounds of the NBA Playoffs), and the National Hockey League (all rounds of the Stanley Cup playoffs).
National Basketball:
The game is traditionally played at the site of team holding the home advantage across the series.Because of the final nature of this game, where the losing team is done for the season, game sevens add an element of drama to their sports. Since this is the final game of the series, the winning team advances in the playoffs or wins the championship.
Aside from North American sports leagues, game sevens are also a fixture in many other sports around the world, mostly in baseball, basketball, ice hockey leagues. Most codes of football do not employ a best-of-seven series (or any best-of-x series in general), hence game sevens are not played in those leagues. The game seven is comparable to a final or to a single game in a single-elimination tournament or to a one-game playoff.

World Series that were decided on a game seven:
ST. LOUIS – The St. Louis Cardinals, who were a strike away from losing the World Series on Thursday night, won it on Friday by beating the Texas Rangers, 6-2, in Game 7 at Busch Stadium.David Murphy flied out to left fielder Allen Craig off closer Jason Motte for the final out, and the Cardinals players hugged and piled onto one another in small groups in the infield as red, white and blue confetti filled the air. It was the Cardinals’ 11th World Series title, and the team’s first since 2006.st. Louis’ ace, Chris Carpenter, delivered for his team again, improving to 2-0 in the World Series and 4-0 in the postseason. Pitching on three days’ rest, Carpenter gave up two runs in the top of the first inning but settled down and shut out the Rangers before leaving after leaving after allowing a leadoff double in the seventh. The Rangers, close enough to taste the title on Thursday, failed to produce a hit against four Cardinals relievers in the final three innings on Friday. The Cardinals erased the Rangers’ early lead with David Freese’s two-run double in the bottom of the first, and took the lead on Craig’s homer in the third. The Rangers’ pitchers blinked in the fifth, issuing a bases-loaded walk to force in a run and then following it by hitting the next batter to give the Cardinals a 5-2 lead.It was a stunning reversal of fortune for the Cardinals, who lost Game 5 in part because of a communications disaster with their bullpen and were down to their last strike — twice — in Game 6. But they rallied for two runs in the ninth inning in that game, did it again after falling behind in the 10th, and then won in the 11th on a home run by Freese.Freese, whose two R.B.I. in Game 7 gave him seven in the series and a record 21 in this year’s playoffs, was named the World Series M.V.P.

After The Death Of Moammar Gadhafi More Oil Flow
Gadhafi's death Details:
Notorious Libyan dictator Moammar Gadhafi, the most wanted man in the entire world, has been killed, the country's rebel government and ABC News claim. The tyrant who terrorized the North African nation and much of the world during his 42 years of rule was cornered by insurgents in the town of Sirte, Libya.Moammar Gadhafi was born and maintained a stronghold of his supporters there, but word that he is dead sparked celebrations in most of the country. The White House and NATO have yet to confirm reports of Gadhafi's deathThe National Transition Council said Moammar Gadhafi is dead following a battle in Sirte, which finally fell to the rebels today after weeks of tough fighting.Gadhafi, 69, had been on the run for several weeks after being chased out of the capital Tripoli, the capital of Libya, by NATO bombers and rebel troops. He had been believed to be hiding in the vast Libyan desert while calling on his supporters to rise up and sweep the rebel "dogs" away, but to no avail.NATO said its fighters struck a convoy of Gadhafi's loyalists fleeing Sirte, but could not confirm Gadhafi was in the convoy, the Associated Press reported.Still, many accounts claim that one of the world's most notorious tyrants - if not the most, after Osama bin Laden was killed - has been knocked off.
Gadhafi’s death to open more oil flow:
NEW YORK — Although Libya will not be able for several months to export as much oil as it did before it descended into civil war this year, the killing of Col. Moammar Gadhafi reduces the chance that violence will get in the way as the North African nation cranks up production again. As Libyan crude returns, it could lower the price of oil on the international markets and gasoline at U.S. pumps. The type of crude produced by Libya, known as light, sweet crude, is rare. It is especially valuable because it is easier for refineries to convert into diesel and gasoline. Many refineries can’t switch easily to processing other varieties of crude. Before the civil war, Libya produced only 2 percent of the world’s oil. But even small interruptions in oil production can have a big effect on the price because the balance between supply and demand is delicate. When fears arise that supplies might fall short, traders get nervous and prices can go up fast. The price of oil jumped 35 percent between Feb. 15, when protests started in Benghazi, and April 29, when oil hit almost
$114 per barrel, the highest since 2008. Gasoline prices in the U.S. rose from $3.12 before the fighting to a three-year high of $3.98 on May 5.By Wednesday, oil had returned to its price before Libya’s uprising began. It fell 81 cents Thursday to $85.30 a barrel in New York trading. The average price of a gallon of gas in the U.S. was unchanged at $3.47.The oil market’s reaction to Col. Gadhafi’s death was muted because efforts to revive the Libyan oil industry have been under way for months under the Libyan transitional government.“It was a foregone conclusion that Gadhafi was finished,” said Daniel Yergin, chairman of IHS CERA, an energy research firm, and author of a Pulitzer Prize-winning history of the oil industry. Before the war, Libya, which sits on the biggest oil reserves in Africa, produced about 1.6 million barrels of oil per day. Production collapsed during the war. Libya now produces about 390,000 barrels a day, a Libyan official said this month.Analysts predict the country can produce 600,000 barrels per day by the end of the year and 1.6 million by the second half of next year. By then, oil, depending on where it is traded, could fall $10 to $25 per barrel, said Michael Lynch, president of Strategic Energy & Economic Research.
But getting back to regular oil production could prove difficult for Libya as its government is still in its infancy. It has no parliament, no constitution and few remaining national institutions. Infighting also could spark a second uprising similar to the insurgency in Iraq, Barclays Capital analyst Helima Croft says Certainly, having Gadhafi no longer on the scene takes away one source of instability.

The Walking Dead': 10 things to know before watching the season 2 premiere:
The Walking Dead" returns to AMC Sunday (Oct. 16) for a second season of zombie-infested drama. It's been nine months since we last left Sheriff Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) and his rag-tag band of zombie-pocalypse survivors outside the exploding headquarters of the Centers for Disease Control in Atlanta.
Season 2 promises more friction between survivors, a richer understanding at some of the characters (Norman Reedus' Daryl, for instance), twice the episodes (13 in all) and lots and lots of blood-splattered, zombie-fueled terror.
As we head into the 90-minute premiere, we've gathered these 10 important things to know before you watch. For fans, it'll serve as a refresher. For newcomers, it should give you all the information you need to survive a zombie attack. Okay, not really -- but you'll at least make it through the premiere unscathed:
1. Pay close attention to Rick's opening monologue. He'll give a brief re-cap of where things stand, too. You'll probably be left with one dangling question. The answer: Jacqui.
2. The nasty, black-toothed people you see on the screen are not meth addicts. The entire population of the earth (as far as we know) has been decimated by a virus that turns the infected into zombies.
3. If you read the Robert Kirkman comic books, don't assume you know where this ship is headed -- the show only uses the comics as a loose guide for its own story line.
4. Zombies, though lethal, are slow and stupid. They're easy to outrun, characters just need to avoid getting trapped and/or surrounded by them.
5. We don't know if there's any cure for the virus. At the end of season 1, we met Jenner (Noah Emmerich), a CDC scientist who was pretty sure he knew how the infection worked. He chose to stay and die when the building self destructs.
6. Before they left, Jenner whispered something in Rick's ear. We don't know what that something was. Could he have seen something -- say a surprising encounter between two characters -- or did he discover something interesting from the blood tests he did on the group?
7. Andrea (Laurie Holden) didn't want to leave the CDC alive. If you're wondering why she's got a death wish, know that she had to shoot her younger sister in the head at point blank range when she (her sister, Amy) was bitten and turned into a zombie.
8. Lori Grimes (Sarah Wayne Callies) and Rick's best friend and fellow sheriff, Shane (Jon Bernthal), had a post-zombie-pocalypse friends with benefits kind of relationship when they both thought Rick was dead. When he surfaced alive, they broke things off. Rick doesn't know.
9. Carol's (Melissa Suzanne McBride) husband was killed when zombies swarmed their camp in season 1. She and daughter Sofia are kind of downcast about that, but not really since he was a pretty abusive guy who had more nterest in his daughter than was probably healthy.
10. Daryl's older brother, Merle (Michael Rooker), was left handcuffed to the roof of an Atlanta building by Rick. We know he cut his hand off to escape. We don't know what became of him after that.

Chris Tucker show at Palace Theatre canceled:
Chris Tucker's Oct. 16 show at the Palace Theatre in Albany has been canceled, LiveNation has announced, blaming it on "unforeseen circumstances."The comedian is perhaps best known for his high-pitched voice and his appearances in the "Rush Hour" films with Jackie Chan. The Oct. 16 show had been the rescheduled performance of his postponed Sept. 3 show.
Chris Tucker returns to his first love — standup — at The Joint:
With a slew of hit movies to his credit, actor Chris Tucker this year returned to his first love: standup comedy. He performed last night at The Joint in the Hard Rock Hotel, and his police uniform from the Rush Hour film series was nowhere in sight. Our thanks to contributing photographer Erik Kabik for his photo gallery of the Def Comedy Jam star who really stood out onstage in a bright orange suit and says he is a born-again Christian. Chris was last in Las Vegas as a prominent part of the NBA All-Star weekend in 2009 with Hall of Famers Clyde Drexler and Dominique Wilkins.Robin Leach has been a journalist for more than 50 years and has spent the past decade giving readers the inside scoop on Las Vegas, the world’s premier platinum playground.
Chris Tucker To Lose $6 Million Home:
Rush Hour star Chris Tucker's $6 million Florida mansion is in foreclosure, with more than $4.4 million owed to the bank, reports the Orlando Sentinel, citing papers filed in Circuit Court in Lake County.
Tucker, 39, bought the 10,000-sq.-ft. waterfront home on Lake Apopka, near Orlando, in 2007. The newspaper says the residence contains five bedrooms, three fireplaces, a personal spa, an outdoor kitchen overlooking a pool, and a basement outfitted to resemble a pirate ship, including the sail.Court documents reportedly show an $11.5 million IRS lien on the home in 2011 in order to collect federal income taxes from Tucker, whose monthly mortgage payment, the documents also show, was $25,812.50.There has been no comment from Tucker, but the Times Union of Albany, N.Y., reports that his comedy show scheduled in the city for this Sunday – and was a rescheduling of a postponed Sept. 3 performance – has been canceled because of "unforeseen circumstances.
Florida Mortgage Company to Chris Tucker: Pay Up!!
Rush Hour star Chris Tucker hopefully understands the words coming out of his Florida home loan provider's mouth: His $6 million mansion is being foreclosured on.The actor owes more than $4.4 million, reports the Orlando Sentinel.Tucker bought the 10,000-SF waterfront home on Lake Apopka, near Orlando, in 2007. Sounds like an awesome crib ... if you take away the $11.5 million IRS lien.
Chris Tucker performance moved to Plachta Auditorium after low ticket sales:
Comedian Chris Tucker’s Saturday performance has been moved to Warriner Hall’s Plachta Auditorium after selling only 1,200 tickets so far.The Central Michigan University Program Board decided to change the venue originally scheduled in the CMU Events Center, but the low number of tickets sold could not fill enough of the 5,300 seats available.Student Activities Coordinator Damon Brown, PB adviser, said the show unfortunately had to move due to low ticket sales. Brown said he felt Plachta Auditorium would be more suitable for the 1,200 individuals who already purchased tickets.“We didn’t sell enough tickets and had to make a decision in the best interest of everyone going to the show,” Brown said. “We wanted to make sure it would be a good environment for Chris and for people attending the show.”Brown said he felt the ticket prices did not play a role in the poor sales, and said Chris Tucker performances in different markets generally cost much more to attend.I don’t think ticket prices are high by any stretch of imagination with bleacher tickets for only ten dollars,” Brown said. “For those 1,200 people that have tickets, it will be a great show.”Damon said Plachta Auditorium will be sectioned off to reflect the value of tickets already purchased. For example, those who bought floor seats will have seats closer to the stage reserved.

How We should Celebrate the Birthday of Christopher Columbus :
The name Christopher Columbus is the Anglicisation of the Latin Christophorus Columbus. His name in Italian is Cristoforo Colombo and in Spanish it is Cristóbal Colón. Columbus was born between 25 August and 31 October 1451 in Genoa, part of modern Italy. His father was Domenico Colombo, a middle-class wool weaver who worked both in Genoa and Savona and who also owned a cheese stand at which young Christopher worked as a helper. Christopher's mother was Susanna Fontanarossa. Bartolomeo, Giovanni Pellegrino and Giacomo were his brothers. Bartolomeo worked in a cartography workshop in Lisbon for at least part of his adulthood.Christopher Columbus (c. 31 October 1451 – 20 May 1506) was an explorer, colonizer, and navigator, born in the Republic of Genoa, in northwestern Italy Under the auspices of the Catholic Monarchs of Spain, he completed four voyages across the Atlantic Ocean that led to general European awareness of the American continents in the Western Hemisphere. Those voyages, and his efforts to establish permanent settlements in the island of Hispaniola, initiated the process of Spanish colonization, which foreshadowed the general European colonization of the "New World.
Grade School Mythbusters:
In 1492, Columbus sailed the ocean blue…” but not because he wanted to defy any maniacally tyrannical flat earthers. That this falsehood still endures in countless textbooks is both remarkable and (if you’re like me) completely maddening. You see, there were no serious flat earthers in Columbus’ time. None. Everyone with much education knew that the world was, is, and ever shall be, round. In fact, everyone had known this about the earth for ages.
It’s as simple as that.So why is it that my daughter’s homework today read “On Columbus Day, we remember a sailor named Christopher Columbus. During his time, people thought the world was flat.”? Half the books I found in the library echoed the same refrain, despite the fact that this bit of historical fluff has been disproved over, and over, and over…Why has such a silly idea found such remarkable staying power? The various answers to that question are nearly as infuriating as the myth itself. There are several theories.
The top 5 misconceptions about Christopher Columbus:
1. Columbus set out to prove the world was round:
If he did, he was about 2,000 years too late. Ancient Greek mathematicians had already proven that the earth was round, not flat.Pythagoras in the sixth century B.C. was one of the originators of the idea. Aristotle in the fourth century B.C. provided the physical evidence, such as the shadow of the Earth on the moon and the curvature of the Earth known by all sailors approaching land. And by the third century B.C., Eratosthenes determined our planet's shape and circumference using basic geometry. In the second century, Claudius Ptolemy wrote the "Almagest," the mathematical and astronomical treatise on planetary shapes and motions, describing the spherical Earth. This text was well known throughout educated Europe in Columbus' time. Related: Earth Is Flat in Many People's Minds.Columbus, a self-taught man, greatly underestimated Earth's circumference. He also thought Europe was wider than it actually was and that Japan was farther from the coast of China than it really was. For these reasons, he figured he could reach Asia by going west, a concept that most of educated Europe at the time thought was daft — not because the earth was flat, but because Columbus' math was so wrong. Columbus, in effect, got lucky by bumping into land that, of course, wasn't Asia. The Columbus flat-earth myth perhaps originated with Washington Irving's 1828 biography of Columbus; there's no mention of this before that. His crew wasn't nervous about falling off the earth.
2. Columbus discovered America.:
Yes, let's ignore the fact that millions of humans already inhabited this land later to be called the Americas, having discovered it millennia before. And let's ignore that whole Leif Ericson voyage to Greenland and modern-day Canada around the year 1000. If Columbus discovered America, he himself didn't know. Until his death he claimed to have landed in Asia, even though most navigators knew he didn't. [Top 10 Intrepid Explorers. What Columbus came across was the archipelago of the Bahamas and then the island later named Hispaniola, now split into Haiti and the Dominican Republic. On his subsequent voyages he went farther south, to Central and South America. He never got close to what is now called the United States. So why does the United States celebrate the guy who thought he found a nifty new route to Asia and the lands described by Marco Polo? This is because the early United States was fighting with England, not Spain. John Cabot (a.k.a. Giovanni Cabot, another Italian) "discovered" Newfoundland in England's name around 1497 and paved the way for England's colonization of most of North America. So the American colonialists instead turned to Columbus as their hero, not England's Cabot. Hence we have the capital, Washington, D.C. — that's District of Columbia, not District of Cabot.
3. Columbus introduced syphilis to Europe.:
This is hotly debated. Syphilis was present in pre-Columbus America. Yet syphilis probably existed for millennia in Europe as well, but simply wasn't well understood. The ancient Greeks describe lesions rather similar to that from syphilis. Perhaps by coincidence, an outbreak of syphilis occurred in Naples in 1494 during a French invasion, just two years after Columbus' return. This sealed the connection. But aside from descriptions of syphilis-like lesions by Hippocrates, many researchers believe that there was a syphilis outbreak in, of all places, a 13th-century Augustinian friary in the English port of Kingston upon Hull. This coastal city saw a continual influx of sailors from distant lands, and you know what sailors can do. Carbon dating and DNA analysis of bones from the friary support the theory of syphilis being a worldwide disease before Columbus' voyages.
4. Columbus died unknown in poverty.:
Columbus wasn't a rich man when he died in Spain at age 54 in 1506. But he wasn't impoverished. He was living comfortably, economically speaking, in an apartment in Valladolid, Crown of Castile, in present-day Spain, albeit in pain from severe arthritis. Columbus had been arrested years prior on accusations of tyranny and brutality toward native peoples of the Americas. But he was released by King Ferdinand after six weeks in prison. He was subsequently denied most of the profits of his discoveries promised to him by Ferdinand and Queen Isabella. After his death, though, his family sued the royal crown, a famous lawsuit known as the Pleitos colombinos, or Columbian lawsuits, lasting nearly 20 years. Columbus' heirs ultimately secured significant amounts of property and other riches from the crown. Also, most European navigators understood by the end of the 15th century, before his death, that Columbus had discovered islands and a large land mass unknown to them.
5. Columbus did nothing significant.
With all this talk of a hapless Columbus accidentally "discovering" the New World, as well as the subsequent genocide of native cultures, it is easy to understand the current backlash against Columbus and the national holiday called Columbus Day, celebrated throughout North and South America. This isn't entirely fair. While Columbus was wrong about most things, he did help establish knowledge about trade winds, namely the lower-latitude easterlies that blow toward the Caribbean and the higher-latitude westerlies that can blow a ship back to Western Europe. Also, while Columbus wasn't the first European to reach the Western Hemisphere, he was the first European to stay. His voyages directly initiated a permanent presence of Europeans in both North and South America.News of the success of his first voyage spread like wildfire through Europe, setting the stage for an era of European conquest. One can argue whether the conquest was good or bad for humanity: that is, the spread of Christianity, rise of modernism, exploitation and annihilation of native cultures, and so on. But it is difficult to deny Columbus' direct role in quickly and radically changing the world.Christopher Wanjek is the author of the books "Bad Medicine" and "Food At Work." His column, Bad Medicine, appears regularly on LiveScience.

Dancing's Cheryl Burke: Rob Kardashian Is Better Than Kim:
After three straight athletes for partners, Cheryl Burke is thrilled to be paired with Rob Kardashian on Dancing with the Stars. "It is a little change of pace, but I like it," she tells TVGuide.com. "Athletes are awesome, but I love working with Rob. He really wants to do well and is working so hard." But the Keeping Up with the Kardashians star is not giving it his all solely to win the Mirrorball trophy.
Cheryl Burke: Rob Has 'Lost a Lot of Weight' from Dancing:
Rob did a great job last week on Dancing with the Stars. He was really feeling the dance. I think it gave him some confidence with the judges. And he was really happy, especially when Carrie Ann told him he was better than his sister. It's just nice to hear positive feedback, especially for Rob. He does have his insecurities and he does have low self-confidence. I think it really pushed him to do even better this week.Rob's also become more and more competitive. No one wants to get a bad score on Monday night, and the only way to avoid that is to really work hard. He's taken it seriously from the beginning, but I think now he wants to make sure he improves every week. He's lost a lot of weight. His whole physical appearance has changed. He's using different muscles. He's super sore all the time. I'm not sure if he's changing his diet, but the cardio is really good. I think he lost most of the weight just rehearsing from the jive because it's so fast-paced.
PHOTOS: Dancing with the Stars: Meet Season 13's Competitor:
I can tell Rob is getting more comfortable with his body because he's starting to wear tank tops to rehearsals. And you'll see his arms out. In the beginning, you'd never see that. He looks at himself in the mirror. It's really cute. This week we're doing the foxtrot, and the theme for the couples is "most memorable year of your life." It's a very touching and really sweet story that Rob is telling. People will see more of the sensitive side, and how family-oriented Rob is.He's a quick learner. He picked up the foxtrot in one day. Now it's a matter of making the quality of the dance good.

New Apple sprint iPhone 5
Sprint iPhone 5:
Apple launch events are typically dramatic, but tomorrow’s “Let’s Talk iPhone” event could find one company — Sprint — placing its very future on the line. According to the Wall Street Journal, Apple will announce tomorrow that Sprint will at last gain access to the iPhone, joining rivals AT&T and Verizon. The reported cost: more than $20 billion, in the form of guarantee to purchase and subsidize more than 30 million iPhones over the next few years — whether Sprint can sell them or not. That would be a huge risk. And for now, the report remains pure speculation. But it’s juicy speculation. Writes the Journal. If Sprint has bet right, the iPhone will be the device that finally breaks the company’s half-decade long slide and keeps much larger rivals Verizon Wireless and AT&T Inc. from running off with the bulk of the wireless industry’s subscribers and profits. If it’s wrong, the iPhone deal will saddle the company with a costly albatross at a time when it is already stretching to manage an expensive network upgrade and cover debt payments. If that isn’t intriguing enough, gadget blog Boy Genius Report today took the rumor-mongering one step further, claiming that Sprint actually bought exclusive access to the new iPhone 5 for that price, relegating rivals AT&T and Verizon to the less-capable iPhone 4S.For now, we’ll have to wait and see — and also feel free to ponder the impact of the new iPhone on mobile operators, which my colleague Michelle Maisto explore here: What Apple’s new iPhone will mean for mobile operators.
Inside Sprint's Bet on iPhone :
As Apple Inc. prepares to release its newest iPhone Tuesday, the terms it has squeezed from Sprint Nextel Corp. reveal the leverage it has over the telecom companies that once ran the show.Sprint, the No. 3 U.S. wireless carrier, is making a multibillion-dollar gamble that access to the iPhone will be the ticket to a turnaround. Sprint has committed to buy at least 30.5 million iPhones, even though it would likely lose money on the deal until 2014, according to people familiar with the matter.Shares of Sprint fell 10%, or 31 cents, to $2.73 Monday after The Wall ..
New Leaks Suggest iPhone 4S and Sprint iPhone 5 Tuesday Launch:
Whoops! New images are adding some strong evidence to the rumormongering that Apple's going to announce the release of the iPhone 5 on Sprint's network come Tuesday. And you can thank Radio Shack for this one.According to an alleged screenshot taken of a Radio Shack internal inventory page, both a 16-gigabyte iPhone 5 and a 32-gigabyte iPhone 5 are a-coming. It's a bit more a significant bit of evidence than the guessing game that arose from an earlier internal Sprint memo, which told company employees that vacations were blacked out between September 30 and October 15 due to the "possibility of a major phone launch.

It looks like Sprint will indeed be getting the iPhone 5 soon--perhaps on Tuesday.Apparently confirming earlier rumors, a screenshot published by Engadget purportedly of a Radio Shack inventory page lists a 16GB and 32GB iPhone 5. It was suggested in early September that a Sprint iPhone 5 was in the offing when an internal carrier memo informed employees of a vacation blackout from September 30 through October 15 due to the "possibility of a major phone launch."The screenshot also seems to confirm earlier reports from the Wall Street Journal and Bloomberg, which reported that customers would have access to an unlimited data plan.Apple might give us more information on a Sprint iPhone on Tuesday, when the company is widely expected to take the wraps off a next-generation iPhone during a Cupertino, Calif., press event. Apple sent invitations to the media last week that featured a cluster of four iOS icons and the tag line "Let's talk iPhone."

New Modal Car Tesla In Betas:
The Tesla Model S is a full-sized battery electric sedan in development by Tesla Motors. It is an electric car that was codenamed WhiteStar during research and preliminary development. It was announced in a press release on June 30, 2008. The prototype vehicle was displayed at a press conference on March 26, 2009.Production for the retail market is expected to begin in mid 2012, with a base price of US$57,400. The base model will have a range of 160 miles (260 km) when fully charged, and a 0 to 60 mph (0 to 97 km/h) acceleration of 5.6 seconds. The premium Signature Series will have a larger battery pack available with ranges of 230 and 300 miles (370 and 480 km). The first 1,000 cars to be produced will be of the premium version. Normal charging times will be three to five hours, depending on the battery capacity, and a 45-minute QuickCharge will be possible when connected to a 480 V outlet. In addition, a battery swap will be possible in less than two minutes.
Tesla Model Great Mobile Apps Platform?
Through a connection, I visited Tesla Motors on Saturday evening during its open house for buyers of the coming Model S electric sedan. It pretty much hit the holy trinity of awesome-ness for me: great food and drink, hanging out with pals (a number of the dads of my kids’ school friends work at Tesla) and seeing mind-blowing tech in action. On the latter, there was almost too much to geek out over. There were Tesla’s ‘trainable’ manufacturing robots, which wowed my kids but felt a little early-Skynet to me. There was the eco-tastic choice of materials for the Model S, like the compressed banana leaf veneer for your door and dashboard. It’s really cool, but to future Model S owners: Please don’t name-drop it at your next cocktail party lest you sound like Ron Burgundy mentioning his leather-bound book collection and apartment smelling of rich mahogany. And while a lot of you have heard about the Model S’s peerless electric battery system, did you know it can now beat the BMW M5 and other muscle-bound Euro luxury sedans in a sprint?I’ll focus on the Model S’s infotainment system, based around the vertical 17-inch LCD screen that takes up the entire center console ((there is another 12.3 inch LCD screen in front of the driver that will display speed, fuel remaining, etc.)In the party tent, I spoke to several of the engineers working on the system and gleaned some details not previously reported at the Model S’s prior unveilings. While I think it’s extremely exciting for consumers and pushes the state-of-the-art for mobile electronics, its viability for would-be developers remains unclear.
Is the Model S’s 17-inch LCD-based system the future of in-car infotainment?
Let’s start with the good stuff. At about 100-plus square inches, the LCD is about 3 times larger than the 10-inch screens (about 36 square inches) of the iPad and the next-largest car display, the 2009 BMW 7-Series. Indeed, the tennis-racket-sized screen is about 8 times larger than the 6-inch screens in most of today’s conventional 2-DIN LCD car stereos/DVD players.
playing Angry Birds on that:
Here’s the not as good. The screen as of today is a single-finger touch, lacking the multi-touch swipes and gestures of the iPhone and iPad. Instead of the projected capacitive technology used by the latest smartphones and tablets, the screen uses infrared. Now, there are two kinds of infrared touchscreens. The first is a relatively old technology that has been used in point-of-sale systems and outdoor displays. The second is a variety its makers like to call ‘optical imaging’ and which is used in modern multi-touch-enabled PCs like HP’s TouchSmart. It sounded like Tesla is using the latter variety. Thus, I’m guessing that the single-touch is a correctable software issue.
Optical imaging screens do have two chief advantages over capacitive screens like the iPad. First, users are not required to use their bare finger (which creates an electrostatic charge detectable by a capacitive touchscreen. That means users can be wearing driving gloves on the Model S screen. Perhaps more important, optical imaging screens are way cheaper today than capacitive ones at sizes like 17-inches.Despite all of that, Tesla might still move to a capacitive touchscreen, I was told.On the internal guts: the system will run an ARM-based Nvidia Tegra CPU/GPU combo. Today, that would be the Nvidia Tegra 2 based on the dual-core Arm Cortex-A9.By the mid-2012 release of the Model S, however, it could be a Tegra 3 (Kal-El) that will be five times faster than the Tegra 2 inside the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1, the Lenovo IdeaPad Tablets, the Motorola Xoom and others. Or it could even be a Tegra (Wayne) with a 4-core ARM Cortex-A15 that will reportedly be 10x faster than the Tegra 2.
Performance:
Acceleration of the 3,825 pounds (1,735 kg) vehicle is anticipated to be 0–60 mph (97 km/h) in 5.6 seconds aided by a drag coefficient of 0.28.
Price:
Pricing has been announced at US$57,400 for the base-level model with a 160 mi (260 km) range, US$67,400 for an intermediate model with a 230 mi (370 km) range, and US$77,400 for a high-end “Signature Series” model with a 300 mi (480 km) range. For qualified consumers there is a US$7,500 federal tax credit in the United States and there are other applicable local incentives available in several states. The company also announced plans to rent or lease high capacity battery packs which offer a 300 mi (480 km) range. Profits from the Model S are expected to fund development of a more affordable third vehicle codenamed "BlueStar
Battery Packs:
The base model will have a range of 160 miles (260 km) when fully charged using a 42 kW·h battery pack (24 kW·h/100 mi, 108 mpgge). Larger, longer range battery pack options will be available as well; the options announced include a range of 230 miles (370 km) from a 65 kW·h pack (26 kW·h/100 mi, 100 mpgge) and a range of 300 miles (480 km) from an 85 kW·h pack (26 kW·h/100 mi, 100 mpgge). The base battery pack will contain 5,000 lithium-ion cells, reported to be sourced from Panasonic, while the larger battery packs will both contain 8,000 cells and weigh approximately 1,200 pounds (540 kg). The largest pack will use the same number of cells, but each cell will have a 30% higher specific energy to enable the pack to store the additional energy A 45-minute QuickCharge of the 42 kW·h pack will be possible when a 3-phase 480 volt, 100 amp circuit is available (80 amp continuous draw from a 100 amp breaker).
Tesla Model S: Quicker Than a Porsche 911?
As the car market anticipates the arrival of the Tesla Model S electric-powered sedan next year, new information about the car continues on trickle forth. According to numerous reports Tesla boss Elon Musk said at a weekend event the company will also sell a higher-performance version of the car.The souped-up Model S reportedly will accelerate to 60 mph from a standstill in 4.5 seconds, which is two-tenths of a second quicker than the 2011 Porsche 911 Carrera with a manual transmission. If you order the Porsche with the company’s quick-shifting PDK automatic it will match the Tesla at 4.5 seconds in the zero-to-60 sprint. There are versions of the 911 including the Carrera S, GT3 and Turbo that will could more easily outrun the Tesla. But what is important is that the big sedan will be able to run with the Porsche, Chevrolet Corvette, Audi R8 and other muscular sports cars. It would also establish electric power as a performance feature, not just a gasoline-saving one. Even the basic Model S is quick at 5.6 seconds from zero to 60.The car is to roll out next year as a 2013 model with prices starting at $50,000. Tesla says the S will have a range of up to 300 miles, depending on which battery option the buyer chooses. The company could not be reached immediately for comment.".

Demi Lovato is "Up All Night" with Missy Elliott and Timbaland
USA Up All Night (also known as Up All Night and Up All Night with Rhonda Shear) is an American cable television series that aired weekly on Friday and Saturday nights on the USA Network. The show aired from 1989 to 1998.
Demi Lovato:
Demi Lovato drops a serious beat in her latest single.
The artist, who has said her upcoming album will feature a touch of hip hop, is joined by Missy Elliott and Timbaland on the track, which is titled "Up All Night."“It’s about staying up all night long and singing it to the boy that you like, and it’s flirty and fun and it’s not too grown-up, but it’s grown-up enough,” the 19-year-old told MTV News about the single. Listen to it now.Demi Lovato had us certifiably choked up with her heart-tugging ballad “Skyscraper”, and now she’s got us dancing to the beat on her new Unbroken song “All Night Long”. Stop toying with our emotions, Demi! The club-ready jam is the singer’s collaboration with Timbaland and Missy Elliott, and it’s another successful step towards the former Disney kid’s evolution as an identifiable, mature pop act with her own voice. Thanks to a tweet by Timbo, head over here to listen to Demi’s song (while you still can).“Don’t make plans / Come home with me / We’ll stay up all night long,” sings
Demi on the chorus. And play Shoots and Ladders, right? The upbeat, sassy number has a fun, hand-clapping rally vibe with the cheerleader “Hey!”s that pepper throughout, and though Missy’s contribution is brief, it helps make the track feel like that much more of a party. Glad to see Demi’s new disc isn’t totally made of super-serious or sentimental material.

'Up All Night Creator Emily Spivey is having fun
'Up All Night FUN:
The writers of NBC's new comedy "Up All Night" should not lack for material -- they're creating a TV show about the travails of new parenthood in, at least by showbiz standards, an unusually baby-heavy environment.
Creator Emily Spivey and stars Christina Applegate, Will Arnett and Maya Rudolph all have young children, as does semi-regular Nick Cannon. There's even a nursery adjoining Applegate's and Rudolph's dressing rooms, Spivey says."The babies are here a lot. Down the whole hallway there are signs that say 'Quiet - sleeping babies,'" Spivey told Zap2it when we spoke with her in early September. "Poor Nick is flying back and forth, because his family is in New York. But everyone's just managing -- it's what you have to do. It hasn't been a problem -- it's actually been kind of nice. There's nothing that makes the blood pressure do down more than holding a sweet baby."
It also helps that, according to Spivey, working on "Up All Night" has so far been "super-duper fun." We talked with the former "Saturday Night Live" writer about changes she's made since the pilot and what she hopes viewers will get from the show, which premieres Wednesday night (Sept. 14). Some highlights of our conversation.

How 'real' is new NBC comedy?Christina Applegate in 'Up All Night
USA Up All Night (also known as Up All Night and Up All Night with Rhonda Shear) is an American cable television series that aired weekly on Friday and Saturday nights on the USA Network. The show aired from 1989 to 1998.
Christina Applegate in 'Up All Night:
Christina Applegate and Will Arnett's new TV comedy "Up All Night" may bring the funny -- but part of its draw is probably that it's dealing with the real challenges of being a new parent, the star of the sadly short-lived 'Samantha Who?' told EW.Granted, the set-up is a little extreme compared with the average parents. Applegate and Arnett (of "Arrested Development" fame) play a couple reluctantly adjusting to parenthood, no longer able to indulge chain-smoking, hard-partying ways anymore. (Hangovers and crying babies, for example, do not mix well.)
But many of the challenges they appear to tackle -- managing sleep deprivation, active and involved fatherhood, juggling work, relationship and childcare -- are issues that have been studied extensively, and in different contexts. (Perhaps that's because the TV couple and their co-star Maya Rudolph are currently all parents of young kids.)
Take a 2004 study published in the journal Biological Research for Nursing, which found that women tend to suffer more sleep disruptions than the men do after childbirth. Or 2010 research in the Journal of the American Medical Assn., which found that women aren't the only ones who suffer from post-partum depression -- new fathers struggle with it too, as health writer Shari Roan explains. Also perhaps notable for parents (and perhaps stay-at-home dads, like Arnett's character) is how caring for a child changes a person. For example, a new paper out this week in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences found that men's testosterone levels drop after they become fathers -- and the more time spent with the kids, the lower the hormone level goes. It's a finding showing that men evolved to be good parents, the researchers say.

Up All Night
USA Up All Night (also known as Up All Night and Up All Night with Rhonda Shear) is an American cable television series that aired weekly on Friday and Saturday nights on the USA Network. The show aired from 1989 to 1998.
Hosts:
Actress/comedienne Caroline Schlitt originally hosted the Friday night show, while comic Gilbert Gottfried hosted the Saturday night show. When Schlitt left the program in 1990, comedienne/B-movie actress Rhonda Shear replaced her on Fridays.
Cancellation:
In 1998, USA came under the new management of Barry Diller, and decided to go for a more general and upscale type of viewer. This meant many of USA's long-running series were either overhauled or canceled – Up All Night ended up among the latter. The network relieved Shear and Gottfried of their hosting duties (while still showing the Up All Night imagery before/after commercial breaks), and began airing re-runs of mainstream films that appealed to a broader audience. Eventually, the Up All Night name, music, and graphics were completely removed from the films.

Michaele Salahi was NEVER abducted ... so say police in Virginia ... who claim Michaele has contacted law enforcement and told them she DID NOT want her husband to know where she was.The Warren County Sheriff's Dept. just released a statement saying one of their deputies spoke with Michaele .... and "She seemed calm, was engaged in conversation, and assured the deputy that she had left the residence with a good friend and was where she wanted to be."
The WCSD adds, "Mrs. Salahi advised that she did not want Mr. Salahi to know where she was."Cops say Michaele expressed she was "very sorry" that the Sheriff’s Office had to be involved, but "she did not want to be home right now."The WCSD says officers have made contact with Tareq and "advised him that he had spoken with Mrs. Salahi and told him that she was fine."Still, the Warren County Sheriff’s Office says it is working with the FBI "in an attempt to make additional contact with Mrs. Salahi to assure her well being."
But clearly, Tareq isn't convinced -- because he just gave a tear-filled interview to NBC (video below), insisting, "I swear to God ... this is not a joke."
Michaele Salahi with Neal Schon On a Journey
Michaele Salahi (née Michelle Ann "Missy" Holt) (born October 1, 1965) is an American self-proclaimed model and socialite. The Oakton, Virginia native is a very active member of the Washington, D.C. social scene. She and her husband, Tareq, are founders of America's Polo Cup, which had become one of the largest and most high profile polo events in the U.S. They have also been the alleged owners and residents of the Oasis Winery near Hume, Virginia. (Both the Oasis Winery and America's Polo Cup, Inc. filed for Chapter 7 protection in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in February 2009 and September 2010, respectively.) In 2009, she claimed to be a former Washington Redskins cheerleader; however, the Washington Post reported that this was untrue.
On a Journey with Neal Schon:
A couple hours after Tareq Salahi released a public statement and asked for help in tracking down his supposedly kidnapped wife, Michaele Salahi's whereabouts have been discovered: she's in Memphis with Journey guitarist Neal Schon.
Michaele used to date the artist and is rumored to be having an affair with him now. She attended his band's concert in Nashville last night. Said a police department spokesperson who chatted on the phone with the former Real Housewife of D.C.:She seemed calm, was engaged in conversation, and assured the deputy that she had left the residence with a good friend and was where she wanted to be. Mrs. Salahi advised that she did not want Mr. Salahi to know where she was. [She was] very sorry [that the Sheriff’s Office had to be involved, but] she did not want to be home right now."She does want to make headlines in any way she conceivably can, however. What a terrible pair of human being, the Salahis.

Unions American Jobs Act:
Unions American Jobs Act:
Working America says President Obama.
laid out some proposals tonight that represent a starting point for reversing the devastating jobs crisis that our nation continues to endure. But if we are to truly dig ourselves out of this hole, we have much more work ahead of us.
UAW President Bob King says:
We call on Congress to put creating good jobs above more tax cuts for the wealthy. It’s time for those who constantly call for tax cuts to support Obama’s plan to provide tax cuts to those who need them the most: working families.
Unions and progressive organizations are calling the American Jobs Act that President Obama presented to a joint session of Congress last night a vital and essential step to restoring the nation’s economy and putting America back to work. They are urging Congress to put aside partisan politics and pass the legislation as a major tool to solve the nation’s jobs crisis. At the same time, the groups are urging Obama and Congress to maintain and strengthen Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid..
AFSCME, AFT, Alliance for American Manufacturing, BlueGreen Alliance, Communications Workers of America, Economic Policy Institute, Electrical Workers, United Food and Commercial Workers, Labor Council for Latin American Advancement, Laborers, National Employment Law Project, NEA, Sheet Metal Workers, Transport Workers, United Steelworkers.Several groups have issued statements that are yet to posted.AFGE President John Gage says:
President Obama has laid out a sound strategy to get millions of Americans back to work…For months, I have been saying that we have a jobs crisis, not a debt crisis. Congress needs to set aside the partisan bickering and pass this jobs bill now.AFL-CIO Building and Construction Trades Department (BCTD) President Mark Ayers says.Nowhere is the jobs crisis being felt more than in the construction industry….Our members are tired of politics and demand action.AFL-CIO Transportation Trades Department (TTD) President Edward Wytkind says:
President Obama’s call to lawmakers to finally begin the long overdue job of modernizing our transportation system was a blunt warning that America is standing still while nations around the world are making the investments necessary to win in the global economy.
The Center for American Progress (CAP) says the plan’s:
boldness matches the size of the challenge. It is pragmatic and sharply focused on the biggest obstacles holding back economic growth. And it is fiscally responsible.
Fire Fighters (IAFF) President Harold Schaitberger says:
President Obama proved to the public safety community that he gets it. His jobs proposal will put fire fighters back to work and prevent layoffs.
Plumbers and Pipe Fitters (UA) President William P. Hite says:
Jobs, jobs, jobs—was the key theme of the president’s address and in his message he once again demonstrated his unwavering support for and commitment to American workers.

Attack The Block Movie
Attack The Block Movie Review:
A teen gang in South London defend their block from an alien invasion.
Director:
Joe Cornish
Writer:
Joe Cornish
Stars:
John Boyega, Jodie Whittaker and Alex Esmail.
Movie Info:
From the producers of Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz, Attack the Block follows a gang of tough inner-city kids who try to defend their turf against an invasion of savage alien creatures, turning a South London apartment complex into an extraterrestrial warzone. -- (C) Sony Pictures.
Movie Review:
I sometimes have to approach movies that I’ve been dying to see months before actually getting to see them with a sense of restraint. High levels of anticipation can be dangerous for two main reasons- the movie may end up not living up to the standards you set for it leaving you disappointed and the possibility of giving the film too much credit because you’ve already told yourself you were going to love it. ATTACK THE BLOCK is a film that made all my doubts disappear the second the title card appeared on screen. This is an alien invasion film that’s fun, witty and surprisingly scary at times.
Movie Story:
There is a shot in Attack the Block of a young man hanging outside his apartment building, holding onto the British flag, the Union Jack. The young man, pointedly named Moses, has trapped the alien creatures in his apartment, jumped out the window, and his holding on for his life. Especially in light of the recent riots in England, the symbolism shouldn't be missed. Certainly, Attack the Block can be enjoyed simply for its surface pleasures of resourceful kids versus creatures from outer space, but there is more to it than that. The kids in fact live in what the British call council flats. Poor, mostly black, and casually criminal, these are not the youth idealized in something from Steven Spielberg. One of the more interesting choices Joe Cornish has made is to break from the standard science fiction narrative where the characters are usually white and more or less middle class. Nor is there a scientist in the bunch. The closest there is to someone with a modicum of scientific knowledge is a stoner who may have understood that what may be happening is, at least in intention, hardly an alien invasion. Cornish also does something radical in his introduction of the kids to cause them to work to gain the sympathy of the audience.
The action takes in and around one of the council flats where the boys live. The one young woman who joins them, only because she sees it as the only way to survive, is named Sam. While Attack the Block does not recall Howard Hawks in the same way that the films of John Carpenter do, there are some parallels to be found here. Most significantly is that Cornish centers his film on a small group that has to take on an outside force that is bigger and more powerful, and can only rely on their own abilities. Any additional help would be too late, if it came at all. By having the female character named Sam, it announces that at least during this situation, she is one of the boys, and entitled to take action along with the others. What makes this different from a Hawks film, or even a Carpenter film, is that Sam is a woman, while the boys are just that, boys, who are stumbling in their efforts to establish themselves as men. There is no simple description for the space monsters other than, as the boys do, describe them as resembling a combination of bear, gorilla and wolf. In full shots, these creatures made me think of the unholy spawn of the titular Alien and Oscar the Grouch. Their most noticeable feature is their double set of sharp, phosphorescent teeth. Cornish has learned the lessons from the better recent creature features, like Alien and Pitch Black, so that what is seen of the creatures is mostly some very quick shots where we don't see much, but we see enough to put the audience on edge. The action takes place in a building called Wyndham Tower, perhaps named after the British science fiction writer, notably of Day of the Triffids, where alien creatures act less out of deliberate malice than from biological imperative. But back to the boy and the flag . . . Attack the Block is about territory, or at least the illusion of territory. Moses and his gang act in their own misguided way in the name of their building and neighborhood when they are first introduced. A drug dealer in the building claims ownership regarding criminal activity when he recruits Moses to work for him. The police, when they appear, are there on behalf of the state to primarily keep those people that might grudgingly be called citizens in their respective places. The alien appear in this out of the way part of south London based also on a territorial claim that may have been in intention once it is established that the creatures are acting on animal instinct. Ultimately, Moses learns the hard way that actions have consequences, and takes a few steps towards a kind of adulthood that exists on other planet than the one inhabited by the cuddly kids and aliens in a Spielbergian universe.
