Selena Gomez and Taylor Swift were the big winners at tonight’s Teen Choice Awards 2011.Gomez, who performed during the show, took home five awards: choice actress (for her role in “Wizards of Waverly Place”), hottie female, music group (along with her band The Scene), music single (for “Who Says”), and love song (for “Love You Like a Love Song”).Swift was given a special ultimate choice award, and also picked up honors for music female artist, female country artist, red carpet fashion icon female, country single (for “Mean”), break-up song (“Back to December”).It’s been a long time since I was a teenager–like two years,” Swift said.After Aston Kutcher won for movie actor romantic comedy, the camera caught Fergie sitting in the audience and making a slashing motion across her neck with her right hand. It was impossible to tell what that was about.Kutcher, in his acceptance speech, seemed to make a reference to the debt ceiling crisis and Standard & Poor’s downgrading of America’s credit. “The whole United States of America needs to hear this,” Kutcher said. “Here’s the best piece of advice I got when I was a teenager. Don’t ever charge anything on a credit card if you don’t already have the money in the bank to pay for it.” He then sang a spirited rendition of Katy Perry’s “Teenage Dream.”The award for comedian went to Ellen DeGeneres. She took a shot at people who didn’t vote for her. “How dare you?” she said.The winner for TV actress drama was Blake Lively. Her show, “Gossip Girl,” was also a winner for choice TV show, drama.The winner for choice movie hissy fit went to Ed Helms for a scene from “The Hangover Part 2.” “I’d like to thank the teen academy for finally recognizing that hissy fits are an important part of healthy communication and a great way to get your point across,” Helms said. He also thanked teens who bought tickets for “Kung Fu Panda 2″ and sneaked into “The Hangover Part 2.”The winner for TV show sci-fantasy went to “Vampire Diaries.” “Glee” won for TV comedy for the second straight year, co-star Cory Monteith won for choice TV actor/comedy, and co-star Darren Criss won for TV breakout star.Cameron Diaz won for movie actress comedy for “Bad Teacher.” Robert Pattinson of the “Twilight” franchise won for choice vampire (yes that was somehow a category). He also won for movie actor drama.Demi Lovato was given the special inspire award in part for her decision to seek help for depression and an eating disorder, and helping other young people to seek out the assistance they need for their problems.
Musician Sean Kingston, injured in a jetski accident, made an appearance with Tyra Banks to present the award for music male artist, which was won by Justin Bieber. “Jesus loves every one of you,” Bieber said, pointing at the crowd.
